The Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan made excellent improvements to Hyderbad as we see today in education or societal development. His legacy, was his vision for a ‘better India and Hyderabad’. One such giving of this mission was the Hyderabad Public School.
Nawab Khan Bahadur Mirza Akbar Baig was the chief architecture of the Hyderabad Public School in the year 1923. Sprawled across 152 acres of land, this institute has royalty embedded in its very foundations. Easily observed in its detailed architecture and design, the prime attraction is the Shaheen Block. With its pure white dome and majestic appearance, this structure is both intimidating and inspiring. It houses the main ‘hall’ of the school and holds the ‘air’ of the Indian royal past.
Previously known as the ‘Jagirdar’s College,’ the institute acquired its current name in 1951, after abolishing the zamindari system in the year 1950. It is situated right behind the Shaheen Dome of the institute, which comprises the royal staircase that leads up to the well-stocked library, still holding out in the ‘Jagirdar’s Block. The library at the Hyderabad Public school is exclusive. However, it is a treasure trove for some of the best in scriptures and literature. Comprising of the ‘Reading Hall’ and ‘Gallery’, the library has some of the best ancient and modern collections. Acquainted with an excellent faculty and E-facilities, a visit is an experience in itself.
True to its royal legacy, the Hyderabad Public school includes the ‘Horse riding club’ and the ‘Shooting Range’ facilities. The school has the best trainers to ensure that the students achieve optimum results in the field. One can see the well-trained riding horses at the permanent stables at the campus. Also, the 10M shooting range within the sophisticated air-conditioned space for training is worth a watch. These have 11 firing points and an electronic target for Air rifle and air pistol. Maintaining the rich legacy, the Hyderabad Public School pays an exclusive focus on its student body’s sports and physical development. This is also evident in the years’ active participation and achievements in various national and international events.
The campus life at Hyderabad Public school is abuzz with activity. It is almost reviving to see the ‘Khakhi-clad’ students go about with their school lives, and the imbibed value system is evident in their pristine code of conduct. The school infrastructure brings you a sense of calm as you step beyond the school gates. To bring about a positive environment, greenery is also a priority. As mentioned earlier, the architectural details within the campus are overwhelming. The ‘Art room’ at the school is strategical, to ensure that the first rays of sun hit the room through the doors and offer the best lights for the artists to utilise for their painting classes. Also worth mentioning is the state-of-art basketball courts and football grounds.
Focusing on the heritage of rich culture, the institute is also on building the ‘thought and literary’ process within the young minds. The Hyderabad Public School is home to various successful societies like the History club, the Geographical society, the debating society and the Science club. It aims to train young minds to incorporate within themselves the confidence to think beyond the horizons of imagination. Also, the Quiz Contest Conclave and the Dramatics Society are areas of total energy where the young talent gets to explore its potentials.
Affiliated to the ICSE and ISC board of the Indian education system, the Hyderabad Public School has ensured excellence in its academic achievements.
Various accolades like the ‘British Council International School award’ 2018, ‘Indutsav Champions trophy’ 2018, ‘The Hindu Inter-school quiz competition’, ‘the winner at the Basketball tournament’ Requealford International school 2018’ and the ‘Overall Championship’ at DESPORTIVO 2018 interschool sports fest.
As for global recognition, the Hyderabad Public school has been a forerunner for quite some time now. The institute holds the top position in Hyderabad and 6th in India under the co-ed day cum boarding school category for the year 2018-19. Featured in the ‘Future50’ schools award list for its exclusive contribution to shaping the education system in India. This school has also been placed third in the nation and top in the state for the list of ‘India’s top 20 day-cum-boarding schools’ category. Also worth mentioning is the award for ‘India’ ‘best and alone Seniorsecondaryschool’ and the ‘Best Innovative K-12 school awards’ 2018. Another impressive feather in the cap for the institute was when it was featured under the ‘Great place to study by the Global League Institute.
The boarding facilities at the Hyderabad Public school is yet another feature that needs a special mention. The dormitory facilities at the campus are state-of-art. Here special care is to ensure the children get the feel of a home away from home. With two large wings named the ‘Tagore wing’ and the ‘Kalidas wing’. Ensuring care, comfort along with the proper disciplinary atmosphere. Placed under the supervision of the Matrons, Housemistress and house masters. The student focuses on striking a balance between ‘work and play’. The facility makes sure that the children under their care develop a sense of respect for time. Physical fitness and dedication towards their academic commitments are also taken into account.
The place also has sprawling grounds where children give their time. Here chances to explore the freedom of various physical activities and sports facilities. Also worth mentioning is the exquisite meals at the campus, which are worth a try. As said by ex-students and alumni, the food at Hyderabad Public school dining hall is still missed. As they say, a happy stomach is a happy heart’.
While the institute has had a historical legacy behind its foundation, also worth mentioning is the sparkling Alumni-list. With such excellent training towards academics, sports and arts, it is not surprising that the Hyderabad public school has a considerable part to play in creating some great personalities. Personalities like Ajaypal Singh Banga -CEO Mastercard, Harsha Bhogle-cricketer commentator, Asaduddin Owaisi-MP Lok sabha, Akbaruddin Owaisi-MLA Telangana, Shantanu Narayan-CEO Adobe inc, Satya Nadella-CEO Microsoft, to name just a few. As the list is long and bright, it is only a testimony of the fact that an educational institute needs to maintain a delicate balance in its overall education system to help provide an environment for the growing minds.
